Tyrannosaurus Rex

Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex), which means “tyrant lizard king,” is “one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs of all time” (World Book Encyclopedia) and “if it was around today, it would eat a human in one bite” (Dinosaurs Before Dark, Magic Tree House book).

Of course, we know it is not around today because they lived long ago and that’s because they are extinct. They’ve been extinct for longer than humans have been alive. Scientists think that an asteroid hit the earth and damaged the environment. And another thing scientists think is that a huge cloud covered the earth and let in no sunlight and all the dinosaurs died (Flash of Brilliance Dinosaur Flashcards).

T-Rex had long teeth for chewing up meat. Because of its long teeth, scientists think it was a carnivore. It didn’t have flat teeth like most animals, or herbivores. It didn’t eat plants (Usbourne Children’s Encyclopedia). It had two fingers on each hand and very short arms. It walked on two legs and it had a very large tail.
